Use of generative AI and AI-assisted technologies
The Review of Socio-Economic Research and Development Studies (ReSERDS) recognizes the growing role of generative artificial intelligence (AI) and AI-assisted technologies (“AI Tools”) in academic research and publishing. These tools offer valuable support in content organization, language enhancement, and literature synthesis. However, their use must be transparent, responsible, and aligned with ethical standards in scholarly communication.
This policy outlines the acceptable use of AI Tools by authors and forms part of ReSERDS submission and editorial guidelines. It is informed by internationally recognized standards, including Elsevier’s Generative AI Policies for journals, which emphasize author accountability, transparency of AI use, and the prohibition of AI tools in peer review and editorial decision-making.
1. Use of AI tools
Authors may use AI Tools to support language refinement, content organization, literature synthesis, and formatting. Basic grammar and spell-checking tools do not require disclosure. Authors remain fully responsible for the accuracy, originality, and integrity of their work. AI-generated content must be verified and reflect the authors’ own insights. The use of AI Tools to fabricate data, references, or citations is strictly prohibited. Authors must also ensure compliance with data privacy and intellectual property standards.
2. Disclosure requirements
Authors must include an AI Declaration Statement in their manuscript upon submission. This statement should be placed before the References section and formatted as follows:
AI Declaration: The authors acknowledge the use of [insert AI tool name, e.g., ChatGPT (OpenAI), Grammarly] to assist with [e.g., language refinement, summarizing literature] during manuscript preparation. All AI-assisted content was reviewed and verified by the authors to ensure accuracy and originality.
3. Authors and attribution
AI Tools must not be listed as authors or co-authors. Authorship implies accountability, which cannot be assigned to non-human entities. All listed authors must meet the journal’s criteria for authorship and accept responsibility for the submitted work.
